All about class notes

I’ve had a few questions recently about class notes. An FYI on those …

When do they run?

It depends where you’re looking. I’ve been posting them on Facebook and Twitter, as well as publishing them in The Ichabod alumni magazine.

Chances are, class notes you submit will appear on Facebook before they’re printed in the magazine.

You may have noticed that the deadline for submitting class notes is several months before publication. For example, the deadline for class notes for the August 2012 edition was in mid-May.

Though the magazine arrives in your mailbox in August, my deadline for getting all content to the designer is two months before that. Hence, early deadlines.

Where do they run?

The Ichabod magazine, Facebook and Twitter.

What should I include in a class note?

Any work updates, honors, awards, weddings, notable anniversaries or birthdays, and births. We also ask that you include your address so we can update your alumni record.

Do you run engagements in class notes?

No. But please send us a note once the wedding has taken place.

Where do I submit a class note?

1. Fill out our form on the new website.

2. Send me an email.

3. Call my work phone at 785.670.2303.

More about the website

A couple of quick notes about the website before I head over to President Farley‘s office for an interview (borderline name-dropping?) …

Please check out the virtual tour we worked on for the new site. It is one of the highlights of the redesign.

Other items of note:

  • The faculty page. Part of the improved navigation is an easy-to-search database for our faculty. The profiles include photos, academic background and links to their personal webpages.
  • Social media. Every alumni page contains social media feeds for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. The latter two I’ve recently added so that you’ll have access to our videos and photos. These will grow over the next few months. I’ve also made playlists on YouTube, which should make it easier for you to find videos from specific events, such as the Alumni Awards banquet.
  • Alumni directory. Please take note of the message on our webpages about the directory. You should have received a yellow postcard asking you to verify your information at 1.800.473.6875. If you want to purchase a directory, they will advise you of your purchase options.
  • Feedback: Questions, thoughts or observations on the new website? Send me an email.

Welcome to the Bod Blog!

Myself (Ernie) on the day we revealed Washburn’s sesquicentennial logo

Allow myself to introduce … myself. Always good to reference Austin Powers in a blog. I’m Ernie W. Webb III, the media relations specialist for the Washburn Alumni Association.

When I started working at Washburn in April 2011, two of my goals were to revamp our website and begin writing a blog. Thanks to our campus website overhaul, I’m able to do both for our alumni and friends.

Please take a few minutes to look over our new website. The project is about a year in the making and is a significant upgrade over our previous home on the Internet.

We hope you find it more user-friendly. Also, please check it out on your mobile device. In working with BarkleyREI to redesign the website, we’ve utilized responsive design.

Responsive design is ground-breaking. It will reshape the website and produces an attractive, user-friendly experience on mobile devices.

As for this blog … please come back often. I’ll be updating it with notes, photos and other items from Alumni Association events and activities.
